JAIME " THE HURRICANE" CLAMPITT
AWARDED
FEMALE FIGHTER OF THE YEAR 2007

This was a very difficult category to pick as Canada is lucky to have so many talented fighters to choose from. In the end, we decided on Jamie Clampitt as our fighter of the year. While Clampitt climbed through the ropes only twice for the year, it was the more of who she fought and not how often. Heading into 2007, Clampitt was still reeling from her unexpected defeat to Melissa Fiorentino in May 2006 and rumors were floating around that she'd had enough of the sport and was ready to call it quits. Instead of sailing off into the sunset, Clampitt took on the tough Mia St. John in February 2007 and while Mia wasn't the same fighter she was 5 years ago, she is still a formidable opponent capable of pulling off an upset. Clampitt's lopsided (a near shutout) victory over St. John proved there is still a lots of fight left in The Hurricane. Clampitt followed that victory with another dominating performance against Jane Couch, a fighter that had bested her 3 years earlier deemed 2004 Women's Fight of the Year by Ring Magazine. Now campaigning as a light welterweight, Clampitt heads into 2008 with optimism as well as the moniker of FightNews Canada 2007 Women's fighter of the year.
