Nine-Time U.S. National Amateur Champions

Undefeated cruiserweight prospect Aaron Williams is making a habit of registering dynamic, jaw-dropping knockouts of his opponents. If he keeps it up, his nickname of “Awesome” will be replaced by “Human Highlight Film.”

The 22-year-old is a prodigy; a man-child in boxing on his way to greatness. Williams represents the future of the cruiserweight division and he’s making more and more fans, displaying his fan-friendly style to larger audiences with each fight. Williams was a nine-time U.S. amateur champion, highlighted by gold medals in the 2003 U.S. National PAL Championships, as a heavyweight, and International Junior Olympics. Cleveland-native Williams, now fighting out of Las Vegas, is a boxer-puncher who loves to throw vicious body shots, lacking only professional ring experience.

Aaron made his pro debut at 19, on February 11, 2005 in Oklahoma City, stopping Mike Cooper (1-0) in the opening round. Williams beat Douglass Robertson (DEC4) and Tihomir Duke (TKO1) before fighting a four-round draw with 2-0 Harvey Jolley (39-37, 38-380, 37-39).

Williams has won 12 in a row since the aforementioned draw, nine by knockout. His most notable victories to date have been against Zach Page (11-7 by six-round decision), who has a win against former world champion Lou Del Valle, and Charles Davis (17-11-1 by sixth-round decision), whose victims over the years include former world title-holder “King” Arthur Williams and 18-1-1 Javier Mora.

Aaron recorded a picture perfect KO of DeLeon Tinsley (7-1-1) on ESPN2 this past June 20th at Foxwoods, easily earning him Knockout of the Night honors and high visibility on ESPN Sports Center.

Williams - ranked No. 4 bv the WBC, No. 5 by the NBA, No. 8 by the NABO and No. 9 by the NABA - followed his sensational knockout of Tinsley with back-to-back first-round stoppages of Jeffrey Brownfield (9-6) and previously unbeaten Ryan Carrol (6-0). On January 25, Aaron won a unanimous eight-round decision against veteran Manu Ntoh (17-13-1) at Foxwoods.

In his last fight on April 4 at Twin River, Williams did it again – he absolutely destroyed (40-2) Andre Purlette with picture-perfect, power punching exhibit that had people standing and cheering long after the referee stopped the bout in the second round.

Williams, promoted by Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc., is trained by former world light heavyweight champion Eddie Mustapha Muhammad and co-managed by Pat Doljanin and Albert Falcon.

*Cruiserweight – *Aaron Williams: Am I the only one who saw the possibilities of something special in Williams when he knocked out Andre Purlette on ESPN a couple weeks ago? I thought his style and overall performance were reminiscent of a young James Toney. Yes, that good.

B.J Flores, Matt Godfrey, and Johnathon Banks are getting more hype right now, but I think Williams is just as good now and has more wide-ranging potential. The real monster, Daid Haye, has moved up to heavyweight, so there is room to grow and gain support here. I am putting my money on Williams, whose body does not look like it can make the jump to heavyweight anytime soon. With that I can be assured of many money making title defenses at cruiserweight, instead of the contractual short ends of fighting established heavyweights. Yes, I have already tabbed him as a future champion.

Afolabi Turns Down ESPN2 Fight With “AWESOME” Aaron Williams

(Las Vegas, NV) Hot cruiserweight prospect, “Awesome” Aaron Williams is ready, willing and able to meet newly crowned NABO champion Ola Afolabi on ESPN2, Friday, June 6th.  The question is: Is Afolabi willing to meet the challenge of the undefeated, Las Vegas cruiserweight?

According to Williams’ managers, the interest from the Afolabi camp is lukewarm, at best.  “Aaron is ready to go on ESPN2, June 6th, said co-manager, Albert Falcon.  “We’ve been told that Afolabi and his camp don’t want anything to do with Aaron.  This is a great fight for fans and ESPN and it needs to be made.  Aaron is moving up the NABO ranks, he just KO’d the former NABO champ.  If Afolabi is afraid to defend his belt, give it up, and let Aaron and another fighter who are willing to fight, battle for the belt.”

Williams’ needed less than two rounds to stop former NABO Champion, Andre Purlette (40-3), in an electrifying performance on ESPN2, June 4th.

In a big upset, last weekend, Ola Afolabi stopped undefeated, hot prospect, Eric Fields in the 10th round for the NABO Cruiserweight strap, thus derailing a much anticipated match-up between Fields and Williams. “ESPN kept throwing Eric Fields’ name at us; that’s all we heard,” said co-manager, Patrick Doljanin.  “We wanted that fight, but now we have a guy in Afolabi, who KO’d Fields, which in our minds, and to the fans, makes a very compelling, fight.”

“We want the NABO belt, Afolabi just happens to have it,” Doljanin added.  “So defend your belt, Ola, or give it up.  It’s a belt, not a teddy bear that you snuggle with when you go to bed at night.  You have to defend it.” “I understand why Dino Duva doesn’t want his fighter to be in the same ring as Aaron,” said Falcon, “but all we can do as a team is to try to make these fights happen.”

“If Dino and Afolabi don’t want to fight Aaron Williams, fine, we’ll have to move on.  The fans can draw their own conclusions as to who is a hungry fighter and who is just acting like they want to be a fighter.” Surprisingly, Eric Fields’ name was brought up, yet again, as an opponent for Williams, in spite of his KO loss last weekend.  Fields, not surprisingly, turned down any match-up with Williams in the near future.

According to the Williams camp, B.J. Flores has also turned down a showdown with their young prospect.  B.J. was ESPN 2’s in-studio analyst during Williams 2nd round TKO of Andre Purlette.  “B.J. Flores is a guy that Eddie (Williams’ trainer/former WBA light heavyweight Champion, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad) wanted,” said co-manager Pat Doljanin.

“Eddie called me almost everyday, imploring me to make a fight with B.J. happen.  I understand why BJ doesn’t want the fight and, if I was his manager, I would have said no, too.  Maybe sometime in the future.” “B.J. is a class act, a gentleman and a credit to the sport.  We wish him all the best,” added Doljanin.

Cruiserweight Prospect “Awesome” Aaron Williams Returns April 4th on ESPN2

(Las Vegas, NV) Cruiserweight prospect, “Awesome” Aaron Williams (16-0, 11 KO’s), will be the co-main event on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights,” April 4th at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, RI.   Williams is taking a big step-up when he meets former NABO champion, Andre Purlette (40-2, 35 KO’s) in the 8 round co-feature.

In his last appearance on ESPN 2, Williams brutally knocked-out Deleon Tinsley in the 2nd round.   The stunning KO was featured on ESPN’s Sports Center, hourly, as the “ESPN Play of the Day.”  Tinsley went on to upset previously unbeaten, Alfredo Escalera, Jr. in his next fight.

A Cleveland native, Williams currently lives and trains in Las Vegas, NV under the watchful eye of world class trainer and former WBA Light Heavyweight Champion, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad.

Since inking a promotional contract with New England promoter Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, Williams has claimed Providence, RI. as his second home.

“The fans in Providence and the New England area are very knowledgeable boxing fans,” said the 21 year old Williams.   “They are very supportive and I plan on giving them a memorable performance.”

After a spirited 10-round sparring session with Duncan Dokawari at the Top Rank Gym, Williams had the look of a confident and ready fighter.

“Duncan is a big guy,” said Williams.  “He’s 6’ 4”, 235-240 lbs.  He’s bigger, stronger and hits harder than Purlette.”

Trainer Eddie Mustafa Muhammad has put Williams through a grueling camp.  The former world champion feels the hard work will pay-off on April 4th.

“Aaron is boxing beautifully,” said Muhammad.  “I normally have him working with Chad (current Light Heavyweight king-pin, Chad Dawson), but I wanted him to work with Duncan, because of his size and strength.  Aaron is in dog-shape and you’re going to see the fruits of his labor on April 4th.”

“Awesome” Aaron Williams is managed by Albert Falcon and Patrick Doljanin.  His conditioning coach is highly regarded, Axel Murillo.  Murillo is also the conditioning coach of current WBC Light Heavyweight champion Chad Dawson.

PROVIDENCE (August 14, 2007) – Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc. (CES) president Jimmy Burchfield reports that Team Escalera has turned down an opportunity for undefeated cruiserweight prospect Alfredo Escalera, Jr. (14-0-1, 11KOs) to fight CES’ unbeaten nine-time U.S. amateur champion Aaron Williams (14-0-1, 10 KOs) in the ESPN2 Friday Night Fights opening 8-round bout on August 24 in New York City.

“I got a call over the weekend from Star Boxing asking if Aaron would fight Alfredo Escalera, Jr. on August 24,” Burchfield explained. “We accepted without hesitation. When I didn't’t hear back, I called and was told Escalera’s people turned down the fight. Why? I want somebody to give a DNA test to that kid. How can he be the son of the great Alfredo Escalera (world super featherweight champion (1975-78) and not take this fight? It’s what fight fans want to see, two unbeaten cruiserweight prospects, and you know ESPN would like to have Aaron on the show. When he knocked out (DeLeon) Tingsley (June 20) on ESPN, they kept showing his knockout over and over for 24 hours. The problem in boxing today is fighters picking and choosing opponents instead of taking chances. We’re very disappointed.”

CES signs unbeaten cruiserweight prospect Aaron Williams

PROVIDENCE (April 22, 2007) - Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc. (CES) has signed undefeated cruiserweight phenom Aaron Williams (12-0-1, 8 KOs) to an exclusive promotional contract, CES president Jimmy Burchfield announced.

Williams, 21, is a nine-time U.S. amateur champion, highlighted by gold medals in the 2003 U.S. National PAL Championships as a heavyweight and International Junior Olympics. Williams, trained by former world light heavyweight champion Eddie Mustapha Muhammad, is co-managed by Pat Doljanin and Albert Falcon.

"All reports from members of Team CES - Matt Godfrey, Jason Estrada and Peter Manfredo, Sr. - were that Aaron Williams is a very talented fighter, based on a lot of their experiences in the amateurs. Everyone on Team CES welcomes Aaron. With his age and talent, he is championship material, the kind of fighter we want on our team. We always look for a fighter with championship potential, of course, but we also want marketable fighters who handle themselves well in and out of the ring. Aaron Williams is that kind of fighter and I'm delighted we've signed him."

Cleveland-native Williams, now fighting out of Las Vegas, is scheduled to make his CES debut in the co-feature on the May 11th "The Pride Is Back" card at Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

Williams describes himself as a boxer-puncher who loves to throw body shots and lacks only professional ring experience. "I've known Jimmy Burchfield for three years," Aaron spoke about signing with CES. "He took a liking to me but I didn't want to sign with a promoter back then. When I became friends with (CES fighter) Joey Spina, after he signed with my co-managers, I got friendly again with Jimmy. We always liked each other and I'm very happy to sign with CES.

"CES is going to push me, get me a lot of exposure, and take me to another level through fights I need. My short-term goal is to stay busy. Someday, though, I plan to win a world title as a cruiserweight or heavyweight."

Doljanin's relationship with Burchfield, through Spina, opened the door to Williams' signing with CES. "Jimmy's track record speaks for itself," Pat explained. "Look what he's done for Vinny Paz, Scott Pemberton, Joey Spina, Peter Manfredo, Jr., Ray Oliveira, Gary Balletto and so many others. From working with Joey, I saw how Jimmy handles his fighters, and how his operation works. Jimmy runs a top notch, world-class boxing company. It's a good partnership.

"Aaron is a student of the game and a gym rat. At the Top Rank gym in Las Vegas where he trains, he's around all top boxing people like the Mayweathers. Aaron soaks-up everything. His former trainer, Jessie Reid, had too many commitments and now Aaron's trained by Eddie, who also trains Joey. They're (Eddie and Aaron) both Muslims and now it's like a father-son relationship. Aaron also has one of the best strength-and-conditioning coaches in boxing, Axel Merullo."

Williams' most notable victories to date have been against Zach Page (11-7 by six-round decision), who has a win against former world champion Lou Del Valle, and Charles Davis (17-11-1 by sixth-round decision), whose victims over the years include former world title-holder King Arthur Williams and 18-1-1 Javier Mora.

CES' growing stable also includes No. 3 world rated cruiserweight contender Matt "Too Smooth" Godfrey (15-0, 9 KOs), NABF, NABA, USNBC & WBC Continental Americas champion: USNBC and IBF Intercontinental super middleweight title-holder Joey "KO Kid" Spina (19-1-1, 14 KOs), 2004 U.S. Olympian and heavyweight prospect Jason "Big Six" Estrada (8-1, 1KO), world-rated welterweight Ossie Duran (21-5-1, 9 KOs), WBC Youth super featherweight champion Matt "Sharp Shooter" Remillard (11-0, 7 KOs), and three-time world champion and reigning IWBF lightweight belt holder Jaime "The Hurricane" Clampitt (17-4-1, 7 KOs).
